Lodewijk Pincoffspassage

Location: Kop van Zuid, Rotterdam
Country: The Netherlands
Year: 2025
BSc year: 2nd
For my fourth design module, together with a fellow student, I designed the Lodewijk Pincoffspassage project—a contemporary residential building in the south of Rotterdam. Although a collaboration, the media shown is all personal solo work.

Under the guidance of tutors from KAAN Architecten and KBnG architectuur, we spent nine intensive weeks developing a design that responds to its context, social dynamics, and future resilience. The design emphasizes diversity in housing types, vibrant collective outdoor spaces, and a strong architectural language.
The rounded corners subtly reference nearby icons like the Peperklip, softening the building’s appearance at street level. The retail passage beneath the building logically extends the pedestrian route along the quay towards the Entrepothaven.

On the ground floor, cafés, shops, and co-working spaces create an active plinth and encourage encounters between neighbours and residents. The collective rooftop garden and atrium further enhance the plan’s green quality.
